The Move In
An exciting day for any young couple, moving day. Hazel had her family help her move her things in. After her family had left. “Welcome home my love, I got you something.”
“You didn’t have to get me anything Oliver.” She opened up the small metallic gift bag and inside was a special keychain that had a little family on it and said home sweet home. “Thank you it’s perfect.”
“ Ok well I will let you get your things settled and I need to run some errands.”
“Wait your leaving?”
Oliver smirked “Well yeah just for a bit. I’ll be back for a late dinner.” He kissed her on the cheek and said, “I will be back.”
As the door closed Hazel looked around at the boxes and things and sat down with a sigh. “Not exactly how I thought I’d spend my first night in apartment.” After a few minutes of opening boxes and strategizing. She decided clean first as you could tell although kind of clean that the apartment she was now living in, was a bachelor pad before. So, she sets to cleaning. As she is cleaning the bathroom shower the front door opens and slams shut. She looked out and around the corner and it was James. He stumbled in and stopped for a second when he saw the boxes. “I know that I’m not moving. Oliver isn’t moving, I don’t think.” He said slurring his words. Hazel come out of the bathroom and said “Hi we met a couple of weeks ago. Remember me? My name is Hazel. I hope you don’t mind I was doing a little cleaning before I unpack in Oliver and I’s room.” He looked so confused and lost his balance and fell toward the wall. “Whoa, don’t worry I have a good cure for a hangover. Are you hungry James?” He looked at her and shook his head before he slammed his bedroom door. “I’ll let you know when its ready.” She said with a raised voice.
After about 20 minutes she knocked on James’ door. I have some food for you. There was no response. “I’ll just leave it outside your door for you.” She set back to cleaning and finally got things clean how she wanted them. Then she heard her stomach growl. She looked at the clock, after 1AM. It had been several hours since Oliver had left. She made herself a sandwich and a grocery list while she was at it. Sitting down in the living room she turned on the TV, and watching a show while eating. She then got up and put her pajamas on and moved a few things as out of the walk way as she could get and went to lay down.
There was a loud slam and a large thump. “What the hell! We are gonna have to talk about that! Hazel!” She came out of the bedroom and nervously stood by the coffee table. “Yes, baby. What’s wrong?” He appeared to be intoxicated. She could smell the alcohol as she got closer. He said “I left so you could unpack your shit. Why is it still all over the place?” She said I don’t appreciate the tone. I have only been here for a day. I had spent so much time cleaning and I got tired and went to bed. After she explained she looked over and Oliver was passed out on the couch.
The sun light started peaking through the upstairs apartment bedroom window. It was starting to show Hazel’s new surroundings. She started to look around and realized that she was home. She was a bit concerned with how James and Oliver acted last night. So she jumped out of bed, put on her robe and made her way to the kitchen to make some toast. When she had gotten to the kitchen she saw the tray she had put in front of James’ door empty and on the table. She started making eggs and heard someone stirring.
It was James, He had come out the bathroom door in his pajamas and stopped when he saw Hazel. He said” Sorry are you the one that left the food?” Hazel smiled and said “ Yes, I don’t think we have properly introduced.” As the first few times she had met James he was drunk. James looked at her, said “Thanks,” and walked away.
Hazel quietly walked out into the living room and shut the tv off. She covered Oliver up with a blanket and went back into the kitchen and made breakfast. She set 3 places on the table and finished making breakfast. Hazel sat down to eat and no one else was moving yet. She enjoyed her omelet and hasbrowns alone starting out the window. She was caught up in her thoughts as she washed her dishes. She had gotten her clothes and went the bathroom for a shower. Halfway through the door to the shower opened. Hazel frighteningly covered herself as best she could and looked out the door at James. He looked at her and smiled. He spoke up over the shower sounds and said “Could you pick up your stuff today babe?”
“Yes I was working on it yesterday and got tired.”
“Yeah, well I’m going back to bed, the kitchen is a mess to if you could pick it up.” Oliver said as he walked out of the bathroom. Hazel had hurried to finish her shower and get dressed noticing that the bathroom door had been left open when James had left. In her head she had thought, “ There needs to be some boundaries set here. So far, the only time there has been any thing nice was James thanking her for the hangover cure.
